One man has been displaced from his home after a fire early this morning near Carp, just west of Ottawa.

Firefighters responded to the home at 732 Deertail Lane at about 3:00 a.m. when the homeowner called 911, saying his home was on fire.

The man was the only person living there and he was able to promptly escape to a neighbour's house.

Crews began a defensive attack just before 3:30 and police, paramedics and Hydro One were all called to the building. The fire was cleared minutes later.

The Canadian Red Cross and The Salvation Army also responded to help the man.

A fire investigator was dispatched to examine the scene.
