The Canadian Ski Museum will open its new location at Mont Tremblant, officials announced, moving from its previous location in Ottawa's Westboro neighbourhood.

The museum moved out of its last location in 2011, which was above the Trailhead outdoor enthusiasts store on Scott Street in Westboro. Since then, it has only existed online.

The museum, which also includes the Canadian Ski Hall of Fame, has more than 15,000 artifacts but most of those are currently in storage lockers.

The museum's displays include century-old wooden skis, champions' winning outfits and Canada's first Olympic gold medal.

Chris Edgell, a member of the museum's board of directors who also led the search for a new home, had said there were four bids from British Columbia, including Whistler, B.C. — and the fifth was from Mont Tremblant.

"Tremblant's bid reached the podium because of overwhelming community support," Edgell said in a news release.

"There was also consensus that the St Jovite Mont Tremblant Region represents one of Canada's cradles of ski culture and racing folklore."

Proposals had been due Jan. 13 and the board met Wednesday to make their decision. The ski museum's members will vote on the board's decision in the coming weeks.
