Idle No More protest to close Cornwall bridge to U.S.

Cornwall police say they are closing the International Bridge Saturday morning in response to an Idle No More protest planned for 10 a.m.
The protest is one of a series of demonstrations from First Nations' groups calling on the federal government to work with them to discuss the issue of aboriginal treaties.
Cornwall police Sgt. Marc Bissonnette said the protest is slated to start at 10 a.m., but said police would close the bridge and the area of the traffic circle earlier if the protest were to start sooner.
Bissonnette said police do not know how long the protest will last and said drivers travelling to and from Canada should check ahead for road closure information and consider using alternate crossings.
The last time the bridge closed for anything other than a traffic collision was in 2009, when a dispute between the Akwesasne Nation and Canada Border Services Agency over armed border guards closed the bridge for more than a month.
