A suspected drunk driver suffered serious injuries after he flipped his pickup truck over a guardrail on Highway 105, police say.

MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais said the man, 45, was driving along the highway towards Gatineau around 9 p.m. Saturday when he lost control of his vehicle near the Morrison Quarry.

The truck then hit a snow bank and launched over the railing, becoming airborne and rolling several times. The vehicle stopped in a deep ditch far down from the road.

Firefighters had a difficult time pulling the driver from his truck because the vehicle was far below ground level. The crash backed up traffic along the highway near the border between the municipalities of Chelsea and La Pêche.

Firefighters did not need to extricate the man, though, who suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The man will face an impaired driving charge. Police said he was driving recklessly but the road conditions were also poor. Police also said the man has a history of impaired-driving charges.

That stretch of Hwy. 105 was also closed Sunday morning as the tow truck attempted to remove the vehicle with the assistance of heavy equipment.
