Ottawa public school elementary teachers will be setting up pickets at more than 60 schools and outside political offices during a planned one-day walkout on Wednesday.

Daycares: What's available, what's not

All daycares run from inside English public elementary schools will be closed Wednesday, regardless of whether they are run by the board or are independent, according to the OCDSB.

However, daycares attached to schools and with separate entrances will not be required to close, as long as there is a principal or other worker in the building.

Parents unsure of which situation applies to their children should contact their daycare directly.

The City of Ottawa is extending its before and after-school program, and will cover the whole day, but at a cost per child of $40 a day. The program and the extended hours are only available to children currently enrolled.

Members of the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario will walk off the job Wednesday at 63 schools and at several other locations, including the offices of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board and the riding association offices of Premier Dalton McGuinty, Liberal MPPs Yasir Naqvi, Madeleine Meilleur, Bob Chiarelli and Phil McNeely and Progressive Conservative MPP Lisa McLeod.

Teachers are protesting the Ontario government's Bill 115, which imposed restrictions on the ability of teachers to strike. The Liberal bill passed in the Ontario legislature with the support of the Progressive Conservatives.

Longfields-Davidson Heights open for high school

Longfields-Davidson Heights, which has students from grade seven to 12, is one of the schools where teachers will picket.

But the school has said while the elementary portion of the school (grades seven and eight) will be closed, high school students will be able to cross the picket line without interference. Both the ETFO and the local representatives of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation said there would be no issues with students or teachers crossing the picket line at the school on Wednesday.

Renfrew protest set for Thursday

Teachers in Stratford and Timmins, Ont., were on the picket line Monday, the first day of the series of planned walkouts across the province.

English public school elementary teachers in Renfrew County will be holding their one-day walkout on Thursday, a day after the planned walkout of Ottawa's public elementary teachers.

All Renfrew County District School board elementary schools will be closed that day, and the board recommends parents make alternate childcare arrangements.

There will be no elementary school bus service for Renfrew schools on Thursday.
