Winning light rail bid to be announced Dec. 5

The City of Ottawa will reveal the recommended winning bid for the $2.1 billion light rail system contract on Dec. 5.
City officials examined three separate bids for the design, construction timeline and final cost.
VINCI Concessions, ACS Infrastructure Canada and Bouygues Travaux Publics all submitted proposals before July.
VINCI dubs itself Europe’s largest operator of transport infrastructure concessions such as light rail systems, roadways and bridges. ACS is an international group based in Spain, but its Canadian subsidiary is in charge of the Ottawa light rail bid.
Bouygues Travaux is a France-based corporation that advertises its specialty in underground works, complex civil engineering projects and engineering structures.
The details of the winning bid will also be included in a report to city council on Dec. 19, but the bid will go to the transit committee first on Dec. 12.
Ottawa residents will be able to have their say on the winning bid throughout December, with the first open house on the same day the recommendation will be announced.
The construction is projected to start sometime in 2013.
The winning bid will oversee the design, financing, building and maintenance of Ottawa's new light rail system, which the city hopes to have complete by Canada's 150th birthday celebrations in 2017.
