The family of a 26-year-old Ottawa woman is asking for help to find her after she never checked into her Los Angeles hotel.
Ottawa police confirmed they are working with colleagues at the Canada Border Services Agency and U.S. counterparts, including the U.S. Customs and Border Protection service to help locate Sarah-Jane Stavenow.
CBSA confirmed Stavenow has not returned to Canada, but it is not clear where she went after she told her family she landed safely in Los Angeles.
LAPD have put up this poster in search for Sarah-Jane Stavenow. (Supplied photo)A post to Facebook from her family said she was supposed to contact her fiancé, Ryan Kearney, on Nov. 16 when she checked into her room at the Ramada hotel. But she never did.
Travelling alone, sister says
There has not been any activity on her credit card since that day, family members said, and her phone is not on. They also said Stavenow did not board her flight home Wednesday morning.
Stavenow's sister told CBC News she was travelling alone. She was last seen leaving the Ottawa airport on Nov. 16.
"Please pray for Sarah's safe return," read a Facebook post from Stavenow's mother, Suzanne Andrews-Sylvestre, on a page dedicated to finding the Ottawa woman.
"Sarah, if you can see this at all please call or get to the police."
Stavenow grew up in Arnprior, just west of Ottawa, but lived in the nation's capital with Kearney and her seven-year-old son, Caidon.
The Los Angeles Police Department has posted a flyer in the city with a picture of Stavenow. She is described as having blonde hair and blue eyes, standing about five feet five inches tall and weighing about 165 lbs.
Stavenow also has multiple tattoos on her left arm.
LAPD also posted a request for assistance on the force's blog asking anyone with information to contact them at 1-213-996-1800 during Los Angeles business hours.
During non-business hours or on weekends, people should call 1-877-527-3247. Anyone who wishes to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Family asks for privacy
Stavenow and Kearney recently had their Stag and Doe party on Nov. 10 and her bridal shower was held in October, according to Facebook.
A friend of the couple sent CBC News this statement on behalf of Kearney.
This photo of Stavenow and her son, Caidon, was taken four years ago. (Facebook)"I would like to thank everyone for their concern for Sarah and we all hope that she is safe and sound and returns home to be with her son Caidon and the rest of her family," the statement read.
"I really appreciate the effort everyone has made and the well wishes I have received. I would like people to respect our privacy at the moment and allow the many professional agencies who are working on this around the clock to do their jobs."
