A routine call to assist a motorist stuck on Highway 417 with a flat tire turned into a double drunk driving bust for Ontario Provincial Police last Thursday.

Upon arriving at the scene at the side of the eastbound lane near Castlefrank, officers determined the 20-year-old male driver was intoxicated. During his arrest, the female passenger, also 20, jumped into the driver's seat and left the scene.

Police said she drove away "in a dangerous manner but was hindered by the flat tire."

After a brief pursuit, the female was stopped and also arrested for impaired driving.

Both suspects are to appear in Ottawa court in December.
