Inquest to be held into 2010 toddler drowning

An inquest is being held into the death of two-year-old Jérémie J. Audette, who drowned in a backyard pool in 2010.

"The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding … Audette's death," said a media release issued by the coroner's office Thursday. “The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths."
The inquest is scheduled to begin Nov. 26 at the Ottawa courthouse, and 23 witnesses are expected to be heard from over 15 days.
Audette drowned July 28, 2010, after he fell into an above-ground pool while his unlicensed daycare provider visited the home of another daycare operator who was hosting an event.
Paramedics tried to revive the toddler, who had no vital signs when they arrived at a house in the Innes Road and 10th Line area. He was rushed to the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, where he was pronounced dead.
In August 2011, a city committee approved naming an Orleans splash pad after Audette.
