A man in his 40s has been pronounced dead after crashing into a tree on Cavan Street near Kirkwood Avenue and Merivale Road, paramedics say.
The crash happened just before 4:15 p.m. Wednesday and involved only one vehicle.
Paramedics said the man was trapped inside his vehicle when they arrived at the scene.
Because of the damage, paramedics were unable to get to him until the vehicle was cut open by firefighters, a media release said. Once paramedics were able to access the man, he was pronounced dead.
Cavan Street was closed between Raven and Larose avenues.
The Ottawa police collisions unit is investigating.
