A truck towing a small house snarled traffic in the eastbound lanes of Highway 417 Tuesday afternoon after it got stuck underneath an overpass.
Police have charged an Ottawa shipping company after a house being hauled along the eastbound lanes of Highway 417 hampered traffic when it got stuck under a downtown Ottawa overpass.
While the company had a permit for the load, OPP said the house on wheels exceeded designated height restrictions. Police said the minimum fine is $300.
City of Ottawa traffic cameras caught the home traveling on the Lees Avenue overpass, where it got wedged underneath a short time later.
The trailer, house and truck have since been moved off the highway and traffic flow in the eastbound lanes has returned to normal.
Tires that blew out during the collision with the overpass will need to be changed and the top cut off the small house, before the load and its driver can make a safe second attempt at going under Lees Avenue.
It's unclear when those repairs and modifications will occur.
