Ottawa police are warning the public about a rash of evening residential break-ins and thefts in the city's south end.

Homes under renovation appear to be the targets. Sheds and garages have been pilfered for large tools and equipment, police said.

Due to the size of the stolen items, police suspect a large vehicle is being used.

The targets, mainly living south of The Ottawa Hospital's General campus on Smyth Road, are being cased during the day, police said.

Police are asking residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious people or vehicles in the area.

If anyone has information about these incidents, call police at 613-236-1222 ext. 3515, or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477 — toll-free at 1-800-222-8477.
