Desjourdy cellblock trial delayed until January

Legal arguments have delayed the trial of an Ottawa police officer charged with sexual assault until January 2013.

Desjourdy has pleaded not guilty to the charge. The woman he is accused of sexually assaulting cannot be identified because of a publication ban.
Both sides argued for three days over whether the Crown could question Desjourdy on testimony he made in an earlier trial.
The earlier trial concerned charges laid against the woman, but those charges were stayed in part due to the treatment the woman received while in the cellblock, the judge had said.
It is still unclear if Desjourdy will testify, as the choice is up to him.
The delay in proceedings led to scheduling conflicts in booking the extra time for Crown and defence lawyers and the judge to hear the case.
The trial will resume Jan. 2.
