A family of five had to find somewhere else to live after a fire in their south Ottawa home on Sunday night.

The blaze started in the basement at 1494 Goth Ave., near Albion and Hunt Club roads, just before midnight.

No one was hurt.

All five people were home at the time, including the family dog. They all managed to escape safely and no one was hurt, firefighters said.

Damage to the two-storey, semi-detached home and its contents is estimated at about $250,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
