An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.0 hit close to Rockland, Ont., east of Ottawa, early Saturday afternoon.
The quake struck at about 1:36 p.m. ET about 10 kilometres south of Rockland, said Cathy Woodgold, a seismologist for Earthquakes Canada.
It hit not long after a larger 3.9-magnitude quake struck 60 kilometres north of Chapleau, Ont., near Wawa, Ont., at about 12:10 p.m.
The quake near Rockland — about 25 kilometres east of Ottawa — was felt in Orleans, Embrun, Vars and Casselman. Woodgold said 19 people had logged on to the Earthquakes Canada website by 3:30 p.m. to report that they had felt the quake.
There were no reports of damage, and Woodgold said damage isn't likely.
"We would not expect any damage from an earthquake of that size," she said.
No one had reported feeling the larger quake near Wawa as of 3:30 p.m., she said.
Eastern Canada experiences about four magnitude 4.0 earthquakes per year, and about 30 magnitude 3.0 earthquakes per year, Woodgold said.
