An elderly woman got a scare Friday afternoon after a garbage truck drove into her house in south Ottawa.
The truck drove into her home on Karsh Drive near Southland Crescent in the Hunt Club Park neighbourhood just after 1:30 p.m.
It crashed into the front garage of the home, pushing a parked vehicle through the garage into two interior rooms.
The woman, who lives alone in the house, was watching television in the next room when the truck crashed into her house. She was not injured.
Paramedics said they treated the driver of the truck for minor leg injuries. He was transported to hospital conscious and in stable condition.
It's still not clear what caused the truck to veer off Karsh Drive and bury itself in the home's double garage. Ottawa police are investigating.
The truck also damaged the home's hydro meter and the structural supports holding the garage roof up, said Ottawa Fire Services spokesman Marc Messier.
The woman is staying with neighbors across the street while emergency crews are on the scene.
