Police have arrested and charged two Ottawa men after they allegedly swarmed another man outside a Vanier convenience store.

Police responded at about 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 14 to the store on Lavergne Street where they found a man with a minor head injury after a swarming and assault.

The victim told police two men left the store and grabbed him, with one of them holding a handgun. The victim said he resisted and he was beaten.

The suspects stole some property but it was dropped nearby before they fled to a residence on Lebrun Street.

Police found the suspects there and arrested them at the scene shortly after. The next day, they executed a search warrant and seized a handgun.

The suspects, 26 and 23 years old, face six charges each including:

• Robbery with an offensive weapon.
• Unlicensed person possessing prohibited/restricted weapon.
• Possession of a weapon in commission of an offence.
• Possession of a firearm obtained by crime.
• Assault causing bodily harm.
• Uttering threats.

The 26-year-old also faces two more counts of possessing a firearm.

The 23-year-old next appears in court Sept. 24 while the other man appears in court again Thursday. They both remain in custody.
