King Edward Avenue was closed for hours between Laurier Avenue and Osgoode Street after a cyclist was struck by a vehicle early Sunday morning.

The crash happened just before 6 a.m.

The victim, a man in his early 70s, suffered severe head and leg trauma, paramedics said. He was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Later Sunday morning, police said the man was conscious and talking in hospital.

No other information on the crash was immediately available. The road re-opened at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

The Ottawa police collisions unit is investigating.
