350 charges laid by Ottawa OPP during long weekend

Ontario Provincial Police officers in Ottawa laid more than 220 speeding charges, 28 distracted driving charges, three impaired driving charges and more during the Labour Day weekend.
In OPP territory provincewide, two people were killed in separate motor vehicle collisions and two others died in separate marine incidents.
Overall, nearly 16,000 driving-related charges were laid by OPP officers throughout the weekend, including nearly 11,000 for speeding and fewer than 200 for alcohol-related infractions.
To date this year, there have been 238 roadway fatalities in the OPP's jurisdiction, a 20-per-cent increase from the same time frame last year.
In Ottawa, OPP officers laid more than 220 speeding charges, 25 seatbelt charges, 28 distracted driving charges, three impaired driving charges, four racing charges and others.
