Members of the protest group SOS Wakefield are pleased that Quebec's environment ministry has applied for a court injunction against a construction company working on the Autoroute 5 extension.

For months, the group has been trying to stop Couillard Construction from dumping clay in the Rockhurst sand pit.

The company has been taking sand from the pit and replacing it with clay. Residents are worried that the clay will harm the Wakefield spring because clay doesn't filter water the way sand does.

The motion was put forward in a Montreal court on Friday. The company asked for and was granted a postponement of the case until Tuesday.

The protest group hopes that in addition to an injunction, a hydrogeological study is ordered.
