A Gatineau man has been charged with attempted murder after his partner was beaten and stabbed at a wedding reception Saturday night.
Police said they received a call Saturday night at 10:40 p.m. about an incident involving guests at a wedding party at the Chateau Cartier.
Police said they learned from witnesses that a male suspect had assaulted his partner, a 36-year-old woman, before guests intervened.
The man then fled, and while police were looking for him, he returned to the scene and stabbed his partner with what appeared to be a broken beer bottle.
Guests at the wedding then restrained the man until police arrived.
The woman was transported to Hull hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
Jorge Mejias Sanchez, 48, made a court appearance Monday and was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and uttering death threats.
Gatineau police said the incident is still under investigation.
