It has been nearly a year since Valérie Leblanc's body was found on a path outside her school in Gatineau, Que., and her family says the lack of closure in the case has been torture.

Leblanc's body was found on Aug. 23, 2011, in a forest near CEGEP de l'Outaouais in the Hull sector of Gatineau. Police said the 18-year-old student died from severe head trauma. Her body was also found burned.

Gatineau police still have no prime suspect or witness.

Huguette Leblanc said she has not slept much since her granddaughter's body was found. She said it is a loss time can't heal.

"I think I'm going to relive that forever," said LeBlanc. "I didn't have a chance to say bye or anything."

Family frustrated

Jacques Bouchard, Leblanc's uncle, said he knows police are doing everything possible to solve his niece's case, but added it is the unknown that frustrates him.

"We would like them to be inside jail, that's all we want," said Bouchard.

Gatineau police held a news conference — a day before the one-year anniversary of Leblanc's death — to update the public on their investigation in the case.

They have created a QR code that allows mobile device users to scan and file a tip.

Police have canvassed the area extensively, released a composite sketch of a man they described as an important witness and offered a reward for information related to the case.

While about 1,500 tips have come to police, there has been no arrest. They reminded the public Wednesday there is still a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

A command post will be set up at the CEGEP de l'Outaouais Thursday morning.
