Thirteen children were transported to hospital today after suffering injuries while in a pool at the Calypso Water Park in Limoges, Ont.

Ottawa paramedics and Ontario Provincial Police responded to the park, which is about 45 kilometres southeast of Ottawa, at around 1:30 p.m. for children who were feeling sick in a wave pool.

Paramedics say people reported a strong odour of chlorine in the pool.

The children, who range from four to 14 years old, had problems breathing and three of them suffered from symptoms of nausea, vomiting and airway irritation.

Thirteen were brought to the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario. One was assessed at the park and released to a parent.

The hospital said on Twitter all the children had been sent home.

Calypso has closed the pool where the incident occurred but the rest of the park is operating.

A spokeswoman told CBC News chlorine was not the cause of the injuries. Ginette Robert said there were about 700 people in and around the pool when the incident occurred.

Staff at the park evacuated the pool and closed it until health officials could test it.

One park patron told CBC News that children were allowed back into the pool after a test, which was less than 10 minutes after the chlorine smell was first reported.
