Ottawa police are looking for a 26-year-old Ottawa man charged with four counts of attempted murder after a Wednesday night shooting on Fisher Avenue.

Hussein Mohammad is described as a Middle Eastern man standing at five feet, six inches tall. He weighs 140 pounds and has medium length, dark brown hair and brown eyes.

A police source told CBC News Mohammad is a known gang member.

Officers found a bullet hole in a parked vehicle Wednesday night on Fisher Avenue near Baseline Road.

It was the city's 27th shooting incident so far this year. In 2011, there were 23 incidents.

Two bullet casings were discovered close to the scene. Police said the shots were fired at about 10:55 p.m.

Police sources told CBC News that Wednesday's shooting is not believed to be related to shots fired in the Blair Street area on Tuesday afternoon.

3 suspects being sought in Tuesday shooting

In the Tuesday incident, police are still seeking three suspects after shots were fired during a high-speed car chase. The three suspects in that incident are all believed to be men in their 20s.

Guns and gangs unit Staff Sgt. Mark Patterson said Tuesday's incident also appeared to be gang related.

"Some of the people carrying firearms — street-gang members — are being more brazen in their shootings which is a cause for concern because you are always concerned about innocent bystanders being around," said Patterson.

Police are worried about the number of incidents of gunfire this year.

"More than half of those involve street gangs so that's a concern to us. What's reassuring to us a bit is that there are not any innocent bystanders that have been hurt by the violence," said Ottawa police Chief Charles Bordeleau.
