An Ottawa couple faces 21 charges after an RCMP investigation into an alleged multi-million dollar fraud.

RCMP allege Roland and Marlene Yacoub Eid stole assets from their company — ICI Construction Management — and then fled to Lebanon in 2008, leaving behind liabilities of more than $10 million.

The company was forced into bankruptcy soon after, leaving hundreds of creditors in the lurch.

The RCMP launched the investigation after receiving a complaint from the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy.

After a four-year investigation, the RCMP laid charges under both the Criminal Code and the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, including fraud over $5,000, obtaining credit by false pretence, laundering proceeds of crime, fraudulent disposition of property and obtaining credit by false representation.

Roland Eid is in custody pending a bail hearing, while his wife Marlene Yacoub Eid has been released with conditions.
