The western Quebec town of Thurso have been under a boil-water advisory for three of the last four weeks.

Town officials say they're experiencing problems bringing a new water-treatment facility online. The old facility is 45-years-old and the municipality said with the community growing, a newer and larger system was needed.

But the transfer of the systems has caused problems, and a month ago the town was under a boil-water advisory for a week. A week later, a second boil-water advisory was issued and has continued for close to two weeks.

The new $5.5 million treatment plant should be finished by August.

Residents CBC spoke with said they were running out of patience and said they want to know if the town will compensate them for their extra expenses.

Thurso mayor Maurice Boivin said he couldn't say if the community would be compensated, and said they'll debate their options when the boil advisories finally end.
