An elderly couple were killed Friday in a fire at a Hawkesbury senior’s home that was not equipped with sprinklers. (CBC)The fire at Place Mont-Roc on 100 Industriel Blvd. started at about 9:30 p.m. and 90 people were forced to flee the building.
But Marie-Anne Bonin, 84, and Jean-Paul Bonin, 87, were trapped by the fire, which started just outside their bedroom door.
No one else was injured.

The deaths happened the same day that a coroner's inquest into a fatal 2009 fire at an Orillia, Ont., retirement home released its recommendations. The Orillia retirement home was also not equipped with a sprinkler system.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. It could be up to three months before residents can return to the building.
The Hawkesbury OPP crime unit, an OPP identification unit and officials with the Office of the Fire Marshal of Ontario are investigating.
