- The mood was somber at federal government offices across Canada as redundancy notices were handed out to federal public servants. Of the more than 5,500 notices, CBC News has been told more than 3,500 were given to workers in the Ottawa-Gatineau region. Here you will find a breakdown of which department had notices and how many.
- The Department of National Defence saw the most notices of any federal government department, which caused concern over border security risks. Many other departments saw a slew of notices including both Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada.
NOTE: Workers who receive letters, and whose jobs are considered "surplus" positions, have 120 days to either choose to stay for a year, take early retirement if they are 55 years old and over, take a buyout package or take a buyout package and reimbursement for educational expenses.
