Mild weather has shut down the Rideau Canal until further notice, the National Capital Commission has announced.

The 7.8-km skating rink has become slushy and wet due to temperatures hovering around the freezing mark.

The timing is tough for the NCC as Winterlude is about to enter its final weekend. The weather is not as bad as last February, though, when sunny, warm temperatures melted ice sculptures and shut down the Canal for days.

The NCC will provide updates on Canal conditions and you can also check out the latest updates here.
