A 28-year-old man is dead after his car struck a road sign in west Ottawa early Thursday morning.

Firefighters, paramedics and police officers responded to the intersection of Robertson and Westcliffe roads at 1:22 a.m. where a car struck a road sign in the Bells Corners neighbourhood.

The man was trapped in the car and was vital signs absent with multiple life-threatening injuries. Firefighters removed the man from his car and paramedics began CPR.

Paramedics aggressively tried to revive the man once he was freed from the vehicle but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Robertson Road was closed for a time between Westcliffe and Mill Hill roads but reopened just after 5 a.m.
