Juliette Fillion, 8, and her sister, Laurence, 11, died in Saint-Romain, Que., on Friday. (Radio-Canada)A Quebec judge has ordered a 35-year-old man accused of killing his mother and two nieces in Saint-Romain, Que., to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
Pascal Morin made his first court appearance in Sherbrooke on Monday. He is charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his mother Ginette Morin and his nieces, Juliette Fillion, 8, and Laurence Fillion, 11.
Morin was arrested Friday evening after police found the bodies of the girls and their grandmother in their family home.
Police have not divulged what weapon was used in the incident, but said it was not a gun.
The deaths shocked residents of Saint-Romain, a town of about 600 between Lac-Mégantic and Thetford Mines.
Media outlets in the region reported that Pascal Morin had a mental illness, possibly schizophrenia.
Morin is scheduled to be back in court Feb. 23.
