Roads remained slippery Friday afternoon in Ottawa as police responded to a number of collisions after a day of freezing rain and snow.
Ottawa police said that they have been called to 69 collisions Friday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. after another wet and icy January day, while Gatineau police reported another 20 collisions.
The poor weather closed the Rideau Canal, forcing a Friday night skating event to move to the newly-opened Rink of Dreams at City Hall. Click here for the latest updates on Canal conditions.
All school buses in Ottawa and the region were also cancelled.
Environment Canada said a system moving into Ottawa delivered several hours of freezing rain before it changed to snow just after noon.

Wet weather also snarled traffic and made it a difficult commute to work and school.
The slushy, slippery roads also led to a tractor trailer jack-knifing, closing King Edward Avenue northbound for a time in the morning. That blocked access to Gatineau from the MacDonald-Cartier Interprovincial Bridge.
Ontario Provincial Police also reported the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 were closed near Morrisburg after a tractor trailer jack-knifed. Highway 138 was also closed south of Willy Allen Road due to a head-on crash.
Some high school exams rescheduled
Exams at many high schools also had to be rescheduled and students were asked to check their school website.
The exceptions included Nepean High School, Glebe Collegiate Institute, Lisgar Collegiate Institute, Rideau High School, Brookfield High School, Earl of March Secondary School, Longfields-Davidson Heights Secondary School and A.Y. Jackson Secondary School. All those schools held exams Friday.

Police urged all drivers to take precaution on city roads and ease their foot off the pedal. Pedestrians should also wear proper footwear as the sidewalks were very wet and slushy.
