OC Transpo is injecting more money to a long list of routes to add 66,000 service hours, which will increase the number of buses on the roads and the size of buses on certain routes.

The announcement made Monday outlines how the $5.5 million allocated to OC Transpo service in the 2012 city budget will be used.

The additional funding will increase the number of buses serving routes: 2, 4, 5, 16, 30, 87, 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 106, 111, 118, 120, 143, 148, 169, 261, 263, and 691.

There will also be larger buses serving routes 4, 38, 60, 62, 87, 93, and 114 at peak times in the day.

The changes, which will be in place starting Jan. 9, are based on autumn ridership data which were gauged after sweeping cuts to OC Transpo in the 2011 budget.

There will also be adjustments made to five routes:

• Route 5 - Two new off-peak weekday trips between Sandy Hill and Old Ottawa East and the Ottawa Hospital.
• Route 16 – Two new off-peak weekday trips between Sandy Hill and Rideau Street.
• Route 93 – Four trips in the morning peak period extended to provide service on Innovation Drive in Kanata North from LeBreton station.
• Route 106 – Extended to serve all locations along the hospital ring road weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., replacing current shuttle service.
• Route 169 – Five new trips to serve Solandt and Hines roads and Innovation Dr. improving connections in Kanata North.

Of all the changes, only Routes 106 and 169 will notice a difference early starting on Dec. 28.
