Kevin Ransdell, 29, is shown here after his arrest June 27, 2010. (CBC)Kevin Ransdell has been found guilty on two charges related to the carjacking of Anna Korutowska, the widow of murdered Ottawa police Constable Eric Czapnik. Ransdell was found guilty of robbery and forcible confinement.
Korutowska testified in August she thought she was targeted in a planned carjacking when she was parked outside a south Ottawa grocery store. She said a man demanded cash. But after handing over $300, she said he coerced her into driving him to another location, where he fled.
Ransdell, a stocky 29-year-old, claimed police brutality after the altercation June 27, 2010. The allegations were the backbone of the man's defence to stay charges. That request was dismissed.
The Crown is still undecided if it will ask the judge to label Ransdell a "dangerous offender," which would mean he have no chance of parole for seven years.
They will have to decide by the next court date November 8.
