Police say the deaths of three people in a home in Gatineau, Que., appear to be the result of a domestic dispute, but they won't confirm any motive or whether it was a homicide.

The three bodies were found Friday evening by someone visiting the home who called 911 at 6:52 p.m. ET, Gatineau police Lt. Jean-François Beauchamp said.

The first police officer to arrive at the scene checked inside the house and immediately called an ambulance. Two men and a woman — a couple in their 50s and a man in his 30s — were taken to hospital but pronounced dead there.

The couple both had children from previous marriages.

Police couldn’t confirm the causes of the deaths or whether they were the result of a double-murder suicide, saying only that they were suspicious and that investigators from the major crimes unit were looking into them.

The house, at 115 Saguenay St. in the east end of the city north of Ottawa, is a brick bungalow on a quiet residential street with verdant lawns.

People were laying flowers outside the house Saturday.

'It must be serious'

Neighbour Angele Fourchene said she was cooking when she heard police and ambulances outside her door.

“I said, ‘Oh my God, it must be serious’ because it’s non-stop, the sirens are just going on and on and on,” she recalled.

Neighbours confirmed that a couple in their 50s or 60s lived in the home with a younger man in his 30s.

Beauchamp said the house wasn’t in any police incident databases, indicating that no problems have been reported there before.

Autopsies will be conducted on the bodies.
