A construction worker was sent to hospital with pelvic injuries, cuts and bruises Tuesday after he fell from third-floor scaffolding and had part of a wall collapse onto him.

Ottawa paramedics said the man, in his late 40s, was working outside the former Book Market building under renovation at Dalhousie Street when he fell through to the second floor just before 11 a.m. He managed to climb back to the third-floor level and was conscious throughout the incident, paramedics said.

Ottawa firefighters brought him down to ground level and paramedics took him to hospital, where he is in stable condition.

Two southbound lanes of Dalhousie Street were closed near Rideau Avenue as the Ontario Ministry of Labour investigated. The city has installed construction fences around the building.
