Veteran journalist Kathleen Petty is leaving Ottawa after five years as host of Ottawa Morning and the weekly political program, The House.

Petty will be staying with the CBC but will move to a job hosting CBC Radio One's Calgary Eyeopener in her hometown of Calgary.

Petty has been host of the two Ottawa-based radio programs since 2006. Before that she helped launch CBC Newsworld in 1989 and worked 17 years with the national news network.

Petty will continue hosting in Ottawa while a search begins for replacements at the two programs.

Her new job starts at the end of August, but she will attend CBC Calgary's free Stampede breakfast on July 7, which runs from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.

The Calgary Eyeopener's Jim Brown announced in January that after eight years hosting the show he will remain in Calgary, but take on a new role with CBC national radio.
