Ottawa firefighters are investigating a blaze that engulfed a National Capital Commission-owned farmhouse on Robertson Road Monday night.
The fire at 305 Robertson Road broke out at about 7:30 p.m. and took 45 firefighters about two hours to extinguish.
No one was inside the farmhouse when fire crews arrived. (CBC) The farmhouse has been abandoned for a number of years and there was no one inside when firefighters arrived at the scene, said Ottawa Fire Services platoon chief Jim Bloom.
"At the time we arrived the structure was fully involved," said Bloom. "We managed to make entry but we had to pull the crews out for safety reasons. There were holes in the floor caused by the fire."
Robertson Road was closed until just before midnight while police, fire crews and representatives of the NCC investigated.
Damage was estimated at about $500,000.
