Curtis McElhinney joins his third NHL club this season after the waiver wire move by Ottawa on Monday. (Christine Cotter/Associated Press)Goaltender Curtis McElhinney is on the move for the second time in a week, claimed on waivers by the Ottawa Senators.
McElhinney was placed on waivers by Tampa Bay over the weekend, just a couple of days after being acquired in a trade from Anaheim for Dan Ellis.
The Lightning made the move for insurance purposes in case Mike Smith got claimed on re-entry waivers, but that didn't happen.
McElhinney went 6-9-1 in a career-high 21 appearances with the Ducks this season to go with a 3.43 GAA, .890 save percentage and two shutouts.
With the move, Ottawa will likely end the season with a different goalie combo than the duo it started the season with.
The Senators traded Brian Elliott to Colorado for Craig Anderson two weeks ago and placed often-injured Pascal Leclaire on waivers on the weekend.
Leclaire cleared waivers on Monday.
