The Canadian Historical Aircraft Association is sprucing up its museum hangar at the Windsor airport with $720,000 from the federal government.

The funds will be used to repair the 71-year-old hangar roof, add sprinklers and more washroom space.

"We're absolutely ecstatic," said association director Mary Guthrie.

"We're going be able to provide another opportunity for tourists to come to the Windsor Essex region," she said.

"It also allows us to honour the Royal Canadian Air Force pilots who trained here in the Second World War before they went off to the UK."

The museum hangar showcases vintage military and civilian aircraft and artifacts important to Canadian aviation history.
