Executive Producer Paula Waddell was in Toronto to receive the award. (Gemini Awards photo) CBC Ottawa's supper-hour news program won a Gemini for the best local newscast in a small market at the 25th annual Gemini Awards in Toronto Tuesday night.
The program's executive producer, Paula Waddell, was in Toronto to receive the award.
Lynn Douris is senior producer of CBC News at 5, 5:30 and 6. "We have a lot of really experienced journalists here at CBC Ottawa. So this is a team win, because everyone's hard work is being recognized with this award."
CBC reporter Judy Trinh and cameraman Neil Carroll were also nominated for the best breaking local reportage award for a 2009 story about a Bank Street crematorium that was covering the nearby neighbourhood in soot. The category was won by CBC Nova Scotia.
The awards celebrate the best in television production across the country.
Hosts Lucy van Oldenbarneveld and Adrian Harewood were in Ottawa behind the anchor desk on awards night, delivering the news.
