A tractor trailer and the remains of a car lie in a ditch after the two vehicles collided on Monday evening. The passenger of the car was killed in the incident. (CBC)A Rockland, Ont., woman is dead after the car she was riding in collided with a tractor trailer in the City of Clarence-Rockland, about 45 km east of Ottawa.
Ontario Provincial Police said the incident happened on Landry Road at Baseline Road on Monday evening. Police said a Kia Rio was driving southbound on Landry Road when it approached the intersection at Baseline Road and made a left-hand turn into the path of a northbound tractor trailer.
The driver of the truck was unable to avoid the collision and struck the passenger side of the car, police said.
Andrée Desrivières, 27, of Rockland, the passenger of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car, her 26-year-old sister Tiffany Desrivières, suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Civic campus of the Ottawa Hospital.
The driver of the tractor trailer, a 51-year old man from Stittsville, Ont., was not injured. Both Landry and Baseline Roads are closed while the OPP's traffic collision investigator works with Russell County OPP to investigate the collision.
Police said alcohol and speeding were not factors in the collision.
