OC Transpo says it's working to get 48 articulated buses back on the road after finding a major defect that could result in a cracked engine mount.
The transit company recently bought the buses from the manufacturer, New Flyer, and the warranty will pay for repairs. OC Transpo said the flaw, discovered Thursday, doesn't threaten passenger safety, but may affect reliability.
The articulated models have had many problems in recent months, including losing traction in the snow.
City Councillor, Rainer Bloess says Transpo did the right thing in taking the flawed vehicles off the road temporarily, but it will impact riders.
"It means you can't provide reliable service, you can't provide timely service," said Bloess.
"And that in the end causes our residents to lose confidence in the system, and if they lose confidence, they stop taking the bus. That's counter-productive for where we want to go."
