Jayhaed Saadé says he has applied for a licence for his all-music station. (Jeff Semple/CBC)The 14-year-old boy who set up an unlicensed radio station in Ottawa has shut it down after Industry Canada warned him he could be fined up to $5,000 a day.
Jayhaed Saadé stopped broadcasting early Monday morning.
Saadé hopes to return to the airwaves if he gets a licence, which he has already applied for.
Jayhaed received a note from Industry Canada a few days after he began broadcasting his all-music pirate radio station MIX 91.9 FM from Greely, a community in Ottawa's south end, at the end of November.
Industry Canada confirmed it had ordered Saadé to stop broadcasting after receiving complaints about it.
Saadé said he's wanted to run a radio station since he was a small child, so he set one up using equipment he ordered on the internet.
He installed a sound processor to improve the clarity of his signal and bought a radio-data system that displays the name of the song that's playing.
He mounted an antenna on the roof and some listeners reported being able to hear Saadé's station from 20 kilometres away.
