Motorists heading from Gatineau to Ottawa will not be able to use the Alexandra bridge over the weekend.
The southbound vehicle lane of the bridge over the Ottawa River between the National Gallery of Canada and the Canadian Museum of Civilization will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. on Monday so its supports can be reinforced, Public Works and Government Services Canada confirmed.
In addition, lanes will be closed to vehicles in both directions each night from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Oct. 25 to Oct. 29.
The bridge's pedestrian walkway will not be affected.
The bridge connects Ottawa's St. Patrick Street to Boulevard des Allumettières in Gatineau.
The work on the bridge involves seismic reinforcement of the piers.
