A suggestion by Ottawa's acting mayor to declare Wednesday as Shannon Tweed Day was shot down, but he still got his to tell the former Playboy playmate what she means to the city.

Tweed and her partner, Kiss rock star Gene Simmons, visited Ottawa's Parliament Hill and Elgin Street on Tuesday while in the nation's capital for the legendary band's show at Ottawa's Bluesfest.

Tweed and Simmons hosted a private party at Al's Steakhouse on Elgin. Doug Thompson, the acting mayor who attempted to proclaim Shannon Tweed Day, was in attendance, and offered Tweed both a city gift basket and a heartfelt apology.

Tweed, who worked as a model in Ottawa for four years, told Thompson not to worry about the name day falling through.

Tweed is best known for her Kiss connection and for the reality television show, Gene Simmons Family Jewels, that stars the couple and their two teenagers.

"I really applaud Shannon for taking a very high road on this," said Thompson, of her reaction to the proclamation that was turned down by other councillors.

"My peers … they have a right to their opinions. I'm not going to judge them on that. But I just want this to be positive."

Kiss was set to perform Wednesday at 8:45 p.m. ET as part of the Bluesfest

The time of the show was changed from 9:30 p.m. so the band could perform for longer, said show promoters.
