The influence-peddling trial of Ottawa Mayor Larry O'Brien has been delayed for a day, the court heard Monday.

The remaining witnesses in the trial won't be called until Tuesday when Scott Hutchison, the Crown prosecutor, said he will wrap up his case.

Dmitri Pantazopoulos, the Conservative party's former chief pollster, was expected to step into the witness box Monday, but will now testify on Tuesday along with John Reynolds, a former Conservative MP from British Columbia and co-chair of the Conservatives' 2006 federal election campaign.

Hutchison said he and defence lawyer Michael Edelson discussed how best to deal with remaining witnesses, and that the Crown now expects to wrap up the case Tuesday.

The Crown had been expected to complete its case against O'Brien with the testimony of Heather Tessier, O'Brien's niece, but she is no longer expected to be called.

Tessier worked on the campaign of Terry Kilrea, O'Brien's opponent in the 2006 municipal election, and is a former assistant to Conservative MP Pierre Poilievre.

Charges were laid against O'Brien after Kilrea alleged that O'Brien had offered to pay his campaign expenses and to help him get a federal appointment in exchange for dropping out of the mayoral race.

Tim Tierney, Kilrea's 2006 campaign webmaster, is now also on the list of people who aren't expected to be called.

Court will resume at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
