Algerian refugee suspected of ties to terrorist organizations is currently out on bail

Police and border agents have raided the Ottawa home of Mohamed Harkat, whom Canadian security services suspect of having ties to terrorist organizations, supporters of Harkat announced Wednesday.
Officers from the Canada Border Services Agency spent five hours on Monday searching Harkat's home, said Christian Legeais
Legeais is a spokesman for a committee that has been advocating on behalf of Harkat, an Algerian refugee who was arrested in December 2002 and detained for three and a half years on a security certificate.
He's currently out on bail with strict conditions, including 24-hour supervision.
Authorities took away legal documents, family photo albums and a personal computer and notebooks belonging to Harkat's wife, Sophie, said Legeais.
Harkat, a former pizza-delivery man and gas station attendant denies any involvement with terrorism. The Canadian Security Intelligence Service contends that Harkat is an Islamic extremist and member of Osama bin Laden's terrorist network. With files from The Canadian PressShare Tools
