Four Ottawa-area men are facing several charges in a home renovation scheme that police allege cheated about 50 seniors of $1 million.
Police say between November 2002 and November 2007, seniors were defrauded through inflated estimates, advance fees for work not done, salespeople using false names and aggressive sales tactics.
Ottawa police, the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services and the Better Business Bureau received several complaints.
The business operated under several contracting companies: Bryter Construction, Kefalonia Construction, and Ottawa Construction and Renovation.
The men charged are Michael Alivisatos, 49, Allan Preston, 35, and Jason Carlson, 30, all of Ottawa, and Chris Patterson, 27, of Gatineau, Que.
The four men, plus the companies they owned or were employed by, are facing more than 70 charges.
