An autopsy has revealed that hypothermia killed a man found in a field near his home in South Dundas Township Monday morning, police said Wednesday.
Neil Spruit, 52, was found not far from his house in Brinston, south of Ottawa.
Police said Spruit had been riding an all-terrain vehicle on his way home from visiting neighbours Sunday night when he got stuck in the snow. They said he appears to have set out on foot, but never made it home.
Police and volunteers searched for him Monday morning and found him at the base of a tree.
Spruit was still alive when they found him, but he died later in the hospital at Winchester.
